Father’s Day, one day each where we are supposed to stop or
at least slow down to honor our dads or a dad figure in our lives. Oh yes, the
traditional gifts of ties, mugs and other little gestures to show our
appreciation for dad’s place in our homes will all be given. These are all fine
and, as a dad, I’ve always loved these things from my children.
When we think of God, our heavenly Father, how are we
supposed to honor Him? We have never met Him face to face although we see His
presence if we look closely. Unlike our earth fathers, we don’t really know
what His voice sounds like although He does speak to us every day. We honor a
daddy God, whom we’ve never met, by believing in His Son, Jesus. We allow Him
into our hearts each day through trails and triumphs. We read His book with
friends so the words and the Word become a part of our daily existence. We laugh,
cry and pray with Him always and are never alone, even in a crowd when we speak
His name. We honor Him by loving our earth fathers and by being loving fathers
ourselves. Let today be the day that we all slow down and allow that breath you
catch to be the one that says, Father God, Happy Father’s Day from me, a child
of the King.
