There Is Change Afoot.

I was perusing the scripture for the last few days wondering what I was supposed to write about today and was feeling rather alone. At around one o’clock on Wednesday afternoon, I went into my office to join in a prayer meeting with my peers only to realize I did not read the fine print where it said there was no prayer meeting. So, I said to myself, Todd, and I knew it was me because I recognized the voice, take some time and dig into the Word. John 16:16-33 hit me right square between the ears and I took some time to delve into His message for me on this day. As I read through the passage, I realized that there was a sermon series here to start the year off right. There is change afoot and it is time to stop navel gazing and start a great revolution.

32 But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when you will be scattered, each one going his own way, leaving me alone. Yet I am not alone because the Father is with me. 33 I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” John 16:32-33

While some may point out that Christ was talking to the disciples, I dare say this is a message for all times and for all followers of Christ. I will dig into the previous verses over the next few weeks but this one really stood out like a neon sign. There is no peace in the world so long as we focus on the negativity that we are fed daily by the media in order to keep us in fear. Yes, the virus is real and yes, we need to take precautions but the media sows the seeds of fear to sell advertising but I ask this; where is the good news? The world is being pulled in many directions by so many voices and the populace is scattering. What is there in this world that can bring peace? Peace can be found in the Truth. On earth, we will have trials and sorrows but the hope and peace can be found in our living Saviour who overcame the world and promises glory for those who claim Him as Saviour.

There will be many who raise a glass at midnight and toast a new year, there are also those who will make resolutions to better themselves. Can I ask this? Will you pray for your family, your friends, your nation and your leaders? Pray for peace and wisdom to reign over all and this coming year should prove to be whole lot different than last year.
