Our Copper Coins
This
week I was reminded of the widow woman who gave what she had, two copper coins
in Luke 21:3-4. When God asks to work through us for His Kingdom, He already
knows what we are capable of. He will see in us what we do not see in
ourselves. He has called those who gather in His name to be His hands in the
air, His heart in the community, and His boots on the ground. We are people
with warts and scars, trying to figure out what He expects of us, and what He
has for us. God relies not on your ability; He relies on your availability.
When we love our Father, any task or responsibility we accept and labor in for
His kingdom, will be blessed by Him. We may not be perfect at preaching,
praying, leading worship, or have the greatest computer skills, yet He knows
our heart. He alone, can stop Satan from planting seeds of doubt in our lives.
He
furnishes His church with leaders, seekers, followers, the broken, the mended,
the loved, and the unloved. He provides
us with His Word, to rely on as we do our best. Will we stumble? Yes. Will we
get everything right? No. Yet, when we offer God what we have in our heart to
further His kingdom, our copper coins mean more to Him than anything.

Peter's Picks
The Perfect 7-day Diet – Peter’s Picks
‘GLADNESS’
Day 1: Psalm 32:11 – “So rejoice in the Lord and be glad, all you who
obey him! Shout for joy, all you whose hearts are pure!”
Day 2: Psalm 4:7 – “You have given me
greater joy than those who have abundant harvests of grain and new wine.”
Day 3: Hebrews 1:9 – “You love justice and
hate evil. Therefore, O God, your God has anointed you, pouring out the oil of
joy on you more than on anyone else.”
Day 4: Psalm 100:2 – “Worship the Lord with
gladness. Come before him, singing with joy.”
Day 5: Ecclesiastes 5:20 – “God keeps such people so busy enjoying life
that they take no time to brood over the past.”
Day 6: Psalm 30:11 – “You have turned my mourning into joyful
dancing. You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy.”
Day 7: Psalm 45:7 – “You love justice and hate evil. Therefore
God, your God, has anointed you, pouring out the oil of joy on you more than on
anyone else.”
** Verses taken from the NLT.
The Psalms
Lord, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me! Many are saying of me, “God will
not deliver him.” But you, Lord,
are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. I call out to the Lord, and
he answers me from his holy mountain. Ps. 3:1-4 (NIV)
In the time of despair, where do we naturally turn to? Some
may say they rely on their skills after years of training and studies, others
may say that they do not have the coping method and just handle it as it comes.
There are those who turn to the bottle or to the drugs to cope while others
just withdraw and disappear.
David, son of Jesse and future king of the Jews, came upon
many struggles and trials. There were many times he could have and, frankly,
should have, found a quiet little corner with a big bottle of mead and just
drank his troubles away but that is not what happened. He called out “Lord”,
the first words in Psalm 3, that was the big attention getter right there. This
Psalm did not start out “oh woe is me, I am lost and have no way out” but
rather it started out as a bold cry; LORD! How many are my foes, what am I up
against? Then came the great declaration; “But you, Lord, are a shield around
me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high”.
We can look to mortal coping methods in these incidents and
find only temporary escape, I know because I have been there but so rarely do
people first cry out to the Lord. Psalm 116:1-2 (NIV), I love the Lord, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for
mercy. Because he turned his ear to me, I will call
on him as long as I live. David was being pursued by his enemy and he
called out to God, “How many are my enemies, how great is the force?” and then
he looked to God for the strength required to face his foe. Not every time is
the need physical, there was and is a time for patience, wisdom, courage,
humility and knowledge, all things that God has in infinite abundance. So what
stops us from calling on Him as long as we live?
This Sunday we are going to delve into the Psalms and discover
just how relevant they still are in our current needs. If you were only able to
make one call in the face of adversity, would you call out to God?
Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord, you his servants; praise
the name of the Lord. Let the name of the Lord be praised, both
now and forevermore. Ps. 113:1-2
May God bless you all Richly!!

Pray Like Your Life Depends On It
I was watching a Simpson’s episode and noticed that Rev.
Lovejoy was preaching on Constancy. It was not the message that got me thinking
but rather the delivery. The sermon sounded like it was being delivered for the
hundredth time and it was rather robotic and lacking passion. Something was
missing, something powerful and from deep within: Passion!
The satraps and administrators of Darius’ kingdom were
jealous of Daniel (see Daniel 6) and set out to trap him. They knew the only
way to trap Daniel was to get the king to issue an edict that stated none could
worship or pray to any other than himself or thirty days. Daniel, according to
tradition, maintained morning, midday and evening prayers and did not break
from his normal activities even though it meant death if he were caught and he
was caught when these men sought Daniel out at the usual prayer time.
When hard pressed, I cried to the Lord; he brought me into a
spacious place. The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What
can mere mortals do to me? The Lord is with me; he is my helper. I
look in triumph on my enemies. Ps. 118:5-7
The Psalm, when read with the sense of passion and urgency
that comes from deep within our very soul takes on a whole new meaning. It is a
testimony of God’s magnificence declaring the power and strength. When Daniel
was faced with imminent death in the lion’s den did he call out to the Lord:
Then I called on the name of the Lord: “Lord, save me!” The Lord is
gracious and righteous; our God is full of compassion. The Lord protects
the unwary; when I was brought low, he saved me. Ps. 116:4-6
He would have known the prayers of the Psalms, the cry to
God “Lord, SAVE ME! Deliver me from death!!!”
No church can be built without prayer; no gathering can grow
in relationship without prayer. God is the Creator of all things and our prayer
is a conversation with our Father, our Saviour. To live without talking and
listening to our Lord is like building a house without first seeking out a
draftsman, sure it will get built but will it stand the test of time without
the proper foundation?
