Bit Different Sunday

This Sunday was a great time. We had the Sundre Community Choir - Ladies Ensemble come in and sing before the service. Outstanding and we can hardly wait to have them come in again! Our service was a combination of song and reports for our Annual General Meeting followed by Communion and our Fellowship Feast. What a great day.

With that said, however, there was not a sermon so there will be no recording today BUT I did want to share part two of the Wednesday gathering in the woods. The pictures in the previous post were the before and the second post is some video of the last bit of a long and muddy section. Al had some mud on him and I was rather more covered (can`t see the evidence because I have the camera).

You can not fake the smiles! We had a great time!!

Blessings all

Prepping for the big adventure!!! Got my coffee!!!

Look how nice and clean we are!!! That will not last for long,
I like the mud too much (so does Al)

The monsters all strapped down waiting for the
opportunity to be allowed to roam the hills!!

five sets of memories for the future!!!

Time To Take A Stand

A little while ago, I had the joy to speak with an Atheist and find out a little bit more about my God. A few weeks ago, we watched God’s Not Dead again and I listened as the authority of a leader was used to bully a group of people into turning their back on God. Two weeks ago, the enemy came upon my wife and I as we prepared for Sunday service in the form of misunderstanding, chaos and distraction. Last week, the enemy came upon us in the form of confusion and commotion.
When the focus is on Christ, the enemy gets mad and will throw everything he has at you. There have been times when I have wondered why; why me Lord, what have I done to deserve this? Then I remember His promise “I will never leave you nor forsake you”. A very wise and wonderful mentor once told me that if you are not making the devil nervous, if you are not praying for God’s will, if you are playing it lukewarm, living on pabulum rather than serving up meat and potatoes, then Satan is going to leave you alone and let you keep on keeping on. If you are making the devil nervous, rocking his boat and claiming victory in the name of God then be ready because he is going to be very upset.

The devil knows his future but he is going to try to steal every soul he can before his time is up. Satan will use any method he can to take the focus off God from simple things like addictions and acceptance of the lukewarm (we call it political correctness at times) to outright spiritual warfare. You see the devil knows his future and is preparing for his demise because our God, Creator of all the universe and Master of all His creation, reigns supreme and, in the end, He wins! We know Eternity, His name is Jehovah.

We also know finite (we call him Lucifer); he is wrapped in evil and will not know anything past his expiration date. As the time draws near, he will fight harder to steal as much as he can. The time has come to take back what the devil has stolen and, in the name of Christ, this can happen because Jesus lives and the Spirit is with us always! May His blessing and power be with us all as we preach the Good News!

Shalom

Keep Moving

Why and how does God move us? Many people will spend years working in the same building, living in the same house, or attending the same church. Then comes a time when we move on, and painfully leave these behind. The pain is the finality of that season, as we leave the ghosts of laughter in the walls, and take with us the memories of a life lived. Time, allows us to move onto new chapters as the pain leaves.

God, in His wisdom, does the same things for us. He will plant us where He needs us for a time. Just when we are nice and comfy, perhaps too comfy, He moves us. He does this because He always has something better for us. Jeremiah 29:11. He removes the pain of change or separation, allowing us to keep fond memories of how we got there. He’ll provide a better job, a place to worship, and even leave a time of enjoyment, or as we know it, retirement, for us to have. We may lament about the timing, but I am reminded that His timing is always perfect. God moves you, because He needs you. Perhaps He is moving something in you today, in your time of need. If so, receive it gracefully. Hebrews 4:16.

Growing Up

The Perfect 7-day Diet – Peter’s Picks
‘Growing Up’
Day 1: Colossians 2:6, 7“And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.”
Day 2: 2 Peter 3:18“Rather, you must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. All glory to him, both now and forever! Amen."
Day 3: Colossians 3:9, 10 – “Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds. Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him.”
Day 4: Romans 5:3, 4“We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.”
Day 5: Colossians 3:16“Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.”
Day 6: Ephesians 4:22-24 – “Throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God – truly righteous and holy."
Day 7: James 1:2-4 – “Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.”

Wasting Time

This week, our oldest grandson celebrated his fourteenth birthday. Wondering where the time went, for a moment, in an instant, I flashed back to the day he was born. I have done the same with our own grown children. As I approach my sixtieth, I am reminded how fast, time can pass, as life passes us by. We take time for granted, thinking that we will always have some, to do the things we will get around to. Like fixing a broken door, to mend a broken heart, to take that exotic vacation we cannot afford, and yes, asking Jesus into our lives. Many people put off asking God into their lives because they are too busy for Him, or because they are mad at Him. Please do not waste your time being too busy for, or mad at God. If this is you today, then my encouragement is to just give Him a call, by speaking His name. He will outlast all of us, as He owns all the time there is.

Don’t wait, like I almost did a few years ago. I’m so glad that He waited for me, and so will you be. I get to spend time with Him every day, and I cherish that time. I also cherish any time spent with my children, and grandchildren. We all know time exists, as we see its’ evidence in our reflection in the mirror every day. We should know that God exists, because we see His presence in the gifts He’s given us, like time with our grandchildren.

Bringing It All Together!

For the past four months we have been talking about the foundation of the church; prayer, scripture and Spirit. It all culminated on Pentecost Sunday when we looked at the importance of the power and wisdom of the Spirit. Many were able to speak in the native tongues of those gathered that day, people from all around the Mediterranean, Africa, Europe and Asia. God knew that if His message was to go out into all the nations, it needed to be heard in the language of those gathered. In that He equipped those gathered to be able to communicate the Message to all who were gathered and He gave Peter the courage to speak to thousands in a hostile environment.

The foundation of the early Christian church was founded on three things; prayer, scripture and the power of the Spirit. Prayer; praise and petition sent up to the Father, Creator of all things and all mankind. Scripture; the Word of God, Jesus Christ (In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1). Holy Spirit; …the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything that I have told you. John 14:26.

By the Father I am created, by the Son I am saved, in the Spirit I shall live! JTM

We are blessed and all God’s children declare He is King!

Blessings

The Third Great Event

All those of faith recognize the birth of Christ as being the miracle birth of the Messiah, the King of kings and Master over evil. This was a great and joyous event! There is also the mix of emotions in the death of Christ on the cross and the resurrection of the Saviour three days later. Great sorrow and pain followed by the incredible joy in the realization that He Has Risen!!! For me, there is another very significant event; the day of Shavuot or Pentecost in Greek.

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.  All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. of Pentecost! Acts 2:1-4 NIV

Every year on the holiday of Shavuot the Jewish nation renews their acceptance of God’s gift, and God “re-gives” the Torah (www.chabad.org). This day, the Lord came upon on the people gathered and gave to them the gifting of the Holy Spirit. Jesus was taken up to Heaven in the Ascension but, as promised, in John 14:15-17 NIV;

“If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

God re-gives the Truth to all mankind to live with us and be in us forever. Is that not something to shout about? This weekend we finish up the series with this celebration and rejoice!

May God bring peace and joy to you and yours!

God Shaped Hole

Many years ago when my kids were much younger we had a puzzle set that was shaped like a ball with flattened sides; there were various shaped holes in these sides with corresponding pieces that only fit a specific hole. I found it amusing to watch them try to fit the pieces in the wrong hole and see the confusion on their faces, until they finally made the mental and visual connection of how the pieces were shaped and realized how they fit.

How does this story relate to me you might ask? Well, the Christian music group PLUMB recorded a song with these words. “There’s a God-shaped hole in all of us and it’s a void only He can fill.” Not realizing it, we go through life trying to satisfying our spiritual hunger by fitting improperly shaped pieces into this God-shaped hole.

In Gen. 1:26a of The Amplified Bible, God said, Let Us [Father, Son, and Holy Spirit] make mankind in Our image, after Our likeness.” The Bible is very clear. There’s only One Shape to fill the void...the shape of the Man on the cross.

Natalie, Call My Mom!

So, last year I was really sick with the flu and I could barely lift my head. My wife, Natalie, is a very attentive person but at one point I remembered a commercial from one of the cold remedy companies where the guy was in bed and called out to his wife “honey, call my mom”. Always the smart aleck even on my death bed (I was later told that the term death bed was rather over exaggerated), I called out “Natalie, call my mom!”

I look back over the years and, no disrespect to my dad, any time I was hurt or sick I would always call out to my mom. Superstar athletes, when the camera is on them, call out props to their moms. I have a plaque that was given to me as a present years ago that says “A man loves his sweetheart the most, his wife the best but his mother the longest.” There is a special scent that mom’s put out, it’s a soothing scent that is odourless but when the world seems to come crashing in, the mom scent combined with a calming word and a comforting hug can make even the biggest problems melt away.

Mothers, grandmothers, step-mothers, mothers-in-law, substitute mothers, foster mothers all deserve this special day. This Sunday we celebrate one of God’s most precious gifts…our moms. May God bless them all richly! Natalie MacDonald will be bringing the message this Sunday.

Moms; A Lifetime of Sacrifice

This week, we celebrate Moms. Imagine the strength and endurance it takes to be a mom. They conceive, carry, deliver, nurture then let us go, through smiles and tears. Mother’s or not, all women are moms’ to someone. Gray hair and wrinkles are merely a life time road map of the miles and hours devoted to others. I’ve watched lately, as some mom’s sat with pride through concerts, dance recitals, graduations, and births of grand babies. Many do this even as a single mom. Yet, they never break. Some are praying for a child in a hospital bed, for those far from home and for those whose moms are with Jesus. Some have been promoted to God’s glory laughing all the way through the gates. Moms give us a lifetime of sacrifice and, most of the time, in graceful silence. Each was chosen by God to do this and every one accepted.

I am reminded that God chose Mary, a humble girl of no standing, to carry the most precious child of all; Jesus. A song says, on His mother’s side, they call Him Jesus but on His Father’s side, they call Him Emmanuel. She accepted and knew the immense gift and responsibility of being a mom, His mom. May we all honor our moms and wives for doing the same for us and our children.
