There are times when I shake my head and wonder why. I have
been reading through the letter to the Romans and came to realize that the
message to a nation in flux is just as relevant to our society as it was back
then. In fact it seems that the actions of society has ridden a wave of chaos
and peace for most of our time on this planet. Consider Sodom and Gomorrah, Nineveh,
life in Babylon and the time of the Roman Empire. So many people seeking the
temporary pleasures of the world at the expense of a deeper and more fulfilling
lifestyle. I know this may seem like a rather testy subject but it is a trend
that has been repeated for centuries and we are in the process of realizing our
own Rome 2.0 and Romans has a very specific message for us all.
The
wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and
wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what
may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.
For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power
and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been
made, so that people are without excuse. Rom 1:18-20 NIV
God has made His plan available for each of us to consider but
it is up to each of us what we do with His instructions. Some may choose to
heed the word of God while others may go with the message of the world. God
sent messengers to Sodom and the people looked to perform all sorts of evil
upon them while the people of Nineveh considered the warning of the messenger and
the community changed their ways. One community wiped from the face of the
earth and another saved. Rome was a nation of multiple religions and a variety
of moral and ethical standards that were primarily built on manmade preferences
and then Paul came along and showed them the Way. He communicated that which is
eternal and divine to a society that craved temporary and self-fulfilling. He
came to a nation with a message from the Creator so there would be no excuses
but it is mankind’s nature to find the grey.
This Sunday, we will delve into the message from God through
His apostle Paul. We invite you to join us in person or online at 10:30 MST or
you can watch live on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/MainAvenueFellowship/)
