A friend of mine made this statement this week. We were
speaking about life in general and he said ”there is no finish line”. I know he
has a spiritual belief, or faith walk as some would call it, and I saw a deeper
side of his personality in this. As I thought about it, I realized
that he is right. We as Christians, followers of Jesus, firmly believe in God’s
promise of life eternal, as in John3:16. Many other peoples around the world
believe in an afterlife of some sort. Some believe in reincarnation and many in
ancient times believed in an afterlife, so they would prepare their graves with
earthly possessions so as to be equipped for their next life.
Regardless of someone’s teachings or beliefs, there has to
be something more than our short time here on earth. God did not create and
design our world and our bodies with such complexity just for us to be born,
live and die. There is a powerful living energy in all of us, far beyond
anything we truly understand. When we believe in God and His power of creation,
we carry an innate gift of wonder. He has given all of us an open door to His
throne room. All He asks is that we look to the heavens, and seek Him. Jeremiah
29:13 NIV says,” You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your
heart”. He’s so easy to find. He’s in the smell of a fresh rain, in the silence
of a summer morning, in the unabashed laughter of your children. He’s in the
loving hug of your mother, and in the supporting comfort of your pastor. Folks,
He is everywhere, you just have to look.
I do feel a sense of sorrow for those who deny His
existence, and who expend much of their energy to try and disprove His
presence. I encourage you to pray for those who refuse to believe in something,
or someone, larger and more powerful than themselves. Genesis 1:27 tells
us that God made mankind in His own image. That includes the current non-believers.
How well we treat each other, is His image. We’re all in this life together, so
why not believe in Him, and see what the eternal life will hold. After all,
there really is no finish line.
