How amazing is the power of prayer? I have been privy to
friends and acquaintances this week where prayer was just as palatable as a
fine dinner with friends. The wide range of health, financial and emotional
challenges are as varied as you can imagine. For me, a wave of prayer power
seemed to have a volume all it’s own since last week some time. Our service
last Sunday was completely taken over by Holy Spirit, as it should be. Yet this
was different. Many came to have prayer for themselves yes, but many more were
standing for someone who couldn’t. That was so powerful.
Our country right now is praying in unison for the victims
of an individual who thought it appropriate to attack and kill them while they
prayed. The unprovoked attack on a mosque where people of the Muslim faith
gathered, is Satan’s way of keeping the hate engine running. The fear mongering
in the United States and yes in Canada, is a tool the devil is using to keep us
distracted and away from God. Prayer on a global scale is the best weapon we
have, so let‘s use it. My friends who are ill and in the hospital feel the
power of our prayers as it pushes back the fear of their own struggle. It keeps
their mind focussed on Jesus, where it needs to be to heal. One of these friends,
even through their own situation, shared this. She said, “if we could harness
all the prayers from yesterday, maybe we could fill all the churches on
Sunday”. That was such a powerful testimony of faith in her friends, and in
God’s healing power. Psalm 86:5 TLB reads this way. O Lord, You are so good and
kind, so ready to forgive, so full of mercy for all who ask your aid.
What I have seen this week at the hands of God plays
perfectly into this scripture. We all must ask for God’s aid. That is called a
prayer, and it can only be effective if it’s spoken, either by voice or by
heart. Prayer fits everyone, regardless if it’s across our borders, across the
county, across the room, or across the table. Read Psalm 4:1 every day this
week, and let God take over from there. Let’s harness the power of prayer,
because Lord knows we all need it.
